Dream Chat: 08-11-06
(09:11:27) (GuestHost-WIS) Merri had a dinner to go to tonight, so she asked me last night if I'd step in for her tonight.
(09:12:16) (GuestHost-WIS) Dreams aren't my stong suit, but we'll do the best we can! I have a good article on "Dreams - FAQ" and then we can look at some dreams
(09:35:40) (GuestHost-WIS) I'm back. Sorry, I had to take a phone call
(09:37:32) (Bill) well i hope you've turned your phone off now hosting is a big responsibility :o)
(09:37:39) (GuestHost-WIS) I have a good article on "Dreams - FAQ" we can look at. Would yall like to do that first, or share some dreams?
(09:38:21) (GuestHost-WIS) Yep, Bill. It was an urgent call from Oklahoma.
(09:38:28) (Lory) Whatever you say, WIS...Just want to say that I have started dreaming and remembering them again. I have three....lllooollll
(09:40:34) (GuestHost-WIS) I'll share some of this article, then we can look at some dreams
(09:41:10) (GuestHost-WIS) Again, I apologize for the delay, but it was a family emergency.
(09:41:32) (ron) understood WIS...
(09:41:32) (GuestHost-WIS) Dreams – FAQ
(09:42:02) (GuestHost-WIS) 1. DOES EVERYBODY DREAM? It certainly looks that way. Even people who say they do not dream very much generally do recall dreams if they sleep in a laboratory and are awakened during REM ("rapid eye movement") sleep (the phase of sleep most closely linked to vivid dreams.)
(09:42:26) (GuestHost-WIS) The average person experiences REM sleep 3 or 4 times each night, with each phase longer than the one that preceded it. The last REM period of the night may last upwards of 45 minutes. For about 90 minutes before the onset of REM sleep - and for shorter periods between subsequent REM phases -the body experiences cycles of a different kind of sleep.
(09:42:45) (GuestHost-WIS) If awakened during these "deeper" sleep stages, the person reports mental activity that is more mundane, more thought-like than dream-like.
(09:43:08) (GuestHost-WIS) 2. IS IT NORMAL TO HAVE DREAMS IMMEDIATELY UPON FALLING ASLEEP, WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE OTHER SLEEP STAGES FIRST? People sometimes report that they experience vivid dreams even when they fall asleep only for a very short time. (For example, during the ten minutes between snooze alarms.)
(09:43:29) (GuestHost-WIS) How could this happen, if it takes 90 minutes to progress through the other sleep stages and arrive at REM sleep? There are three possible logical explanations for this phenomenon. First, on the borderline of sleep, there is a phase called HYPNOGOGIA, during which many people experience bizarre and dream-like imagery.
(09:43:47) (GuestHost-WIS) Based on clinical data, this phase is not the same as true REM sleep, although hypnogogic dreams may be indistinguishable from REM dreams. Second, if a person is sleep deprived, they may experience an effect called REM REBOUND. For some reason, the body tries to "make up for" REM time that is lost. So, following a period of sleep deprivation, a person may experience much higher rates of REM sleep than usual.
(09:44:19) (GuestHost-WIS) The REM cycles would be more frequent, with fewer intervening sleep stages. Third, as the night progresses, the rate of non-REM sleep drops sharply. So if you return to sleep when you are actually very well-rested, there is a good chance that you will return directly to REM sleep.
(09:44:47) (GuestHost-WIS) 3. HOW CAN I INCREASE/DECREASE MY DREAM RECALL LEVEL? There are wide differences in different peoples' levels of dream recall. Some people routinely remember three or more dreams every night; other people almost never recall dreams.
(09:45:10) (GuestHost-WIS) Even for individuals, there are often large fluctuations in recall, depending upon time, energy, and life circumstances. While many people are satisfied with their personal level of dream recall, others are not. Some low-recallers feel they are missing something and would like to recall more dreams;
(09:45:28) (GuestHost-WIS) some high-recallers feel "drained" because of a too-active dream life and would like to recall fewer dreams. The tips below are for increasing dream recall (the more common request in this forum). Do the opposite to decrease recall. • Pay a lot of attention to dreams.
(09:45:55) (GuestHost-WIS) Think about them. Read about them. Talk about them. Recall generally increases with interest and involvement. • Keep paper and pencil (or a tape recorder) at your bedside. • Write down any dream that you remember, even if it is just a fragment of a dream, or even if it seems silly or insignificant. • Invest some energy into the care and maintenance of your dream journal.
(09:46:26) (GuestHost-WIS) • Whenever possible, try to awaken naturally, without the aid of an alarm clock. Each time you awaken from internal cues (rather than an external stimulus), you are awakening directly from REM sleep and have the highest likelihood of recalling a dream. • When you wake up, stay quiet and still.
(09:46:50) (GuestHost-WIS) Keeping your eyes closed, try to cast your mind BACK ("What was I just thinking about, a minute ago...?") rather than forward to the coming day's events. • Some people suggest drinking water before bed. The idea is that the urge to urinate might awaken you in the middle of the night, directly from a dream!
(09:47:12) (GuestHost-WIS) (Of course, you risk having lots of dreams about oceans, toilets, etc.) • Others suggest setting your alarm clock for odd times during the night, to try to catch yourself dreaming. Or you could try waking up a half-hour early and then going back to sleep. • Be actively involved in waking life. Try new activities. Learn new things.
(09:47:43) (GuestHost-WIS) This gives you more "material" for dreams. (To decrease dream recall, focus a great deal on outer, waking reality but avoid too many new and exciting activities, which may make your dreaming brain work overtime.) • The power of suggestion can be very strong.
(09:48:12) (GuestHost-WIS) Before you fall asleep, read about dreams, and then state, aloud, your intention to recall a dream the next morning. One caution: Don't try TOO hard. Give yourself "a break" from your efforts, every now and then.
(09:48:32) (GuestHost-WIS) 4. ARE DREAMS REALLY IMPORTANT OR MEANINGFUL? This subject is open to debate. Most of the people who participate in the alt.dreams newsgroup feel that their dreams are personally meaningful, and enjoy exploring them. Some scientists and theorists agree with this perspective; others do not.
(09:49:16) (GuestHost-WIS) Regardless of your personal "take" on the inherent value of dreams, it is certainly true that many people throughout recorded history have felt that dreams are meaningful, and that many dreams have had an important impact upon cultures around the globe. Every major religion contains references to Divine inspiration through dreams;
(09:49:33) (GuestHost-WIS) many creations and inventions (from fine art & literature to sewing machines to the theory of relativity) have been based upon dreams; and many dreams have been historically important (for example, in changing the course of battles or wars).
(09:49:53) (GuestHost-WIS) 5. IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL ABOUT RECURRING DREAMS? Most people who work with dreams agree that recurring patterns or themes in dreams deserve special attention.
(09:50:09) (GuestHost-WIS) The basic idea is that there is a long-standing problem or an important message that the dreamer has not yet fully understood, so the dream keeps "sending" the same message over and over. These dreams are said to give us significant clues about our own issues, personality, and/or behavior.
(09:50:30) (GuestHost-WIS) Ok, anybody have a dream to share?
(09:50:52) (Wanda) Lory
(09:51:17) (Lory) Yes, I have, but let someone else go first if they wish.
(09:52:35) (GuestHost-WIS) Go ahead, Grandmother. :-)
(09:52:48) (Lory) OK. I can copy and paste.
(09:54:56) (Lory) Sorry it is not working...
(09:55:26) (Lory) I'll have to print it out and type it. Let someone else go ahead.
(09:57:04) (Wanda) Hey Lory, e mail it to me and I will try to post it
(09:58:15) (ron) lory, should not be in a TXT file...it only does one line at a time,
(09:58:38) (ron) when you copy/paste
(09:59:27) (ron) there is a carriage return at the end of each line
(10:00:32) (Lory) Let me send them to Wanda, have recently changed monitors and printers and I may have done something wrong.
(10:00:44) (Lory) OK Wanda here comes.
(10:00:57) (ron) lory, turn on your computer lol
(10:00:58) (Wanda) brb. going to get them
(10:05:48) (Wanda) here goes
(10:05:53) (Wanda) The staff had just come out of a briefing for new IRS regs and changes in policy. I laid my journals on a table by the bulletin board while I was reading.
(10:06:35) (Wanda) I then went into the staff room which was shared by three other accountants, remembering that I had left my journals on the table by the bulletin board.
(10:07:09) (Wanda) When I returned to my office one gal was saying, “Well she was wrong and should have known better.” I asked, “Who was she?” The gal answered, “you”. I replied, “You certainly speak with lots of authority since you were not there and could not know what really happened.
(10:07:34) (Wanda) I so dislike gossip and especially gossip mongers”. With that I slammed my journals on my desk, and as I walked out, I said, “I will not stay in this office and work with short sighted, prejudiced people”. I was still shaking when I wakened.
(10:07:57) (Lory) That is the end of the first dream
(10:08:03) (Wanda) end of Lory's dream 1. Right Lory
(10:08:21) (Lory) It is unlike me to spout off like that.
(10:08:53) (ron) seems to have been an interaction regarding three aspects of your life/being...apparently you were being criticized in the dream and dislike that accounting
(10:09:29) (Lory) Good ron.
(10:09:46) (ron) self-righteousness?...impatience?
(10:10:06) (Lory) It is difficult to accept criticism gracefully. :-)
(10:10:06) (ron) you should know
(10:10:20) (ron) where you feel short
(10:10:30) (ron) oh there it is lory
(10:10:33) (ron) yo got it
(10:11:16) (ron) i'm impressed
(10:12:14) (Lory) Patience is one of ideals that I have been working with.
(10:12:57) (Lory) And I have three sixes in my name given at birth, therefore I am judgmental and have working on that too.
(10:13:26) (Wanda) They read your jornals without your permission. Think you are not fond of having others into your business without your approval.
(10:13:34) (Lory) have *been*
(10:13:36) (ron) and i bet, you are very aware of your intellectual qualities
(10:13:42) (GuestHost-WIS) Yep, I was thinkin that very thing, Wanda!
(10:14:18) (Lory) That is true, Wanda and WIS
(10:15:04) (Lory) There are two more and they get longer, so if you would rather we didn't post them, please say so.
(10:15:14) (GuestHost-WIS) No, please go ahead
(10:15:22) (Wanda) okay
(10:15:47) (Wanda) Later that same morning, I dreamt that I was part of a very large body of delegates. We were getting ready to convene and I was looking for a single seating at one of the tables. It was a luncheon meeting. I chose a table where no one else sat.
(10:16:10) (Wanda) Quickly the table filled with other delegates and it became a very friendly and congenial group. None of us knew each other then, but we soon became acquainted and found that we had numerous qualities and interests in common. I felt extreme pleasure.
(10:16:28) (Wanda) We all stood up and held hands when the invocation began. When it finished we all stood close together, hugged and thanked God for all His blessings. I suddenly realized that without God in my life I would have had no reason to continue this lifetime on earth. I wakened with a sensation of complete inner peace.
(10:16:56) (Wanda) And as I write this, I also realize that this group, the friends I have made in this chat room and the moments we share together is one of the best and greatest of blessings that could have possibly occurred in my present lifetime. Thank you all for your love and caring.
(10:17:14) (Wanda) the end
(10:17:40) (GuestHost-WIS) :-)
(10:17:45) (ron) i feel that this dream is an reinforcement regarding the previous dream telling you about all the good and positive qualities that are part of your personality
(10:17:51) (Lory) And that last paragraph is with deepest sincerity.
(10:17:55) (GuestHost-WIS) (((Grandmother)))
(10:18:12) (Cris) We love you too Lory
(10:18:14) (ron) and not to be so hard on yourself
(10:18:25) (GuestHost-WIS) I want to take a minute and tell you something I been wanting to say for a while now...
(10:18:31) (Lory) But I am my own worst critic, ron. Always have been.
(10:18:39) (ron) there is much more good in you than you've been aware of
(10:19:32) (Cris) I found it interesting that you sat at an empty table and it filled up with compatible companions. Like attracks like so you attracted decent good people
(10:19:41) (Cris) Like yourself
(10:19:55) (GuestHost-WIS) Grandmother, you have touched my life in a VERY special way that I will never forget. And I am a better person for knowing you. And I love you very much! You're so special to me! :-)
(10:20:02) (ron) so don't let yourself be overwhelmed over this previous dream of criticism...and you know what changes you are still working on
(10:20:38) (Lory) Oh, Walks In Spirit, what a lovely thing to say. I shall always cherish those beautiful words.
(10:20:55) (GuestHost-WIS) Well, they are the truth. :-)
(10:21:03) (Wanda) I remember the very first time you came here Lory. I felt the power of your spirit.
(10:21:42) (Lory) Thank you,Wanda. That was a long time ago. I've grown since then. A lot.
(10:22:17) (Wanda) You have always been powerful and just getting more so
(10:23:05) (Leon) Very pleased with your dream as I understand it, Lory.
(10:23:39) (Lory) The next dream must have been one of hypnogogia dreams that WIS was talking about earlier, because it appeared after I wakened between 5:30 am and 7:00 am.
(10:23:55) (Lory) and it happened just this morning.
(10:24:04) (LoveInfinity) TY Host
(10:24:05) (Lory) And it a looooong one.
(10:24:18) (Wanda) ready?
(10:24:28) (GuestHost-WIS) Go for it! :-)
(10:24:49) (Wanda) A group of us ladies were sitting around a tee shaped table finishing lunch. We were in an ancient building on one floor that housed several activities. Dining was one of them. A priest in a very long, white robe, with a red beanie on top of his head came over to me, took me by the arm. pulled me from my chair and said, “Come with me”. “Where are you taking me?” I asked. “To my bedroom, sweet lovely”, he said.
(10:25:11) (Wanda) I pulled away from him and angrily spoke, “How dare you assume such a thing and speaking to me this way”. A shocked expression came on his face and his entourage gasped. I turned away and stumbled over a golf bag full of clubs laying on the floor. I picked them up and stood them against the wall as the priest sneeringly walked away.
(10:25:35) (Wanda) A friend of mine, Shari, and I went looking at some relics in this very old building and room, which seemed to be a room off the main floor of a very old, ancient church and was in this same room where we had had lunch. They appeared to be clay forms of or fossilized insects, snails, crickets; even a frog, which Shari picked up and handed to me. We were at a desk or table with these items and I was making notes about our discovery on 3x5 cards.
(10:26:01) (Wanda) Appearing suddenly was ‘the priest’ again with a lustful sneer on his face. He reached down and took one of my cards. I quickly stood facing and loudly chastised him. “Don’t you dare touch me, you ugly, heinous creature”, and grabbed the card from him. The shocked expression and the gasp from those around him were as before. I turned and once again stumbled over a golf bag. I picked it up and stood it against the wall. I awakened or at least I do not know what to make of this dream. I will share it tonight on Dream Chat and see if any one else can come up with some sort of an answer. My friend Shari and I were both much younger. In fact, she died from cancer in the mid 80’s and I do not recall dreaming of her since her transition.
(10:28:15) (LoveInfinity) interesting dream Wanda
(10:28:30) (GuestHost-WIS) Wanda is posting Grandmother's dream for Grandmother
(10:28:34) (Wanda) This is Lory's dream
(10:28:41) (GuestHost-WIS) This is Grandmother's dream
(10:28:42) (true_eagle) k
(10:29:02) (LoveInfinity) oh I see and what was the diagnois
(10:29:30) (Lory) I haven't heard one yet Love... :-)
(10:29:47) (GuestHost-WIS) Well, I admit... I'm stumped on this one!
(09:12:16) (GuestHost-WIS) Dreams aren't my stong suit, but we'll do the best we can! I have a good article on "Dreams - FAQ" and then we can look at some dreams
