Search For God, Book One Study: 03-06-06
Lesson 12: Love
(09:31:38) (Bill) “Love is giving out the best that is within us.”
(09:32:12) (Bill) Another definition of the word love we find in the readings is “giving.” However, we might ask ourselves, “Giving what?” the answer from this passage in the search for God material is that love is giving the best that we have available at that moment.
(09:32:37) (Bill) This kind of giving refers to every aspect of life: giving the best knowledge we have, the best time we have, the best material resources that are ours.(09:32:58) (Bill) Why is it that we sometimes fail to give the best that we have available? It may be out of fear that we shall lack ourselves. Or it may be that we intend to give as soon as we have a surplus. Unfortunately, that surplus hardly arrives.
(09:33:32) (Bill) For he that would declare, “If I were so and so, how charitable I would be,” or “If I were in this or that position what an effort I would make to magnify this or that,” only attempts – in saying such – to give others a high opinion of self, and yet is not fooling even himself or anyone else!
(09:34:01) (Bill) ! For if you give not when you have not sufficient, though you were blessed with many millions, very possibly you would be much more stingy that you are now – and much harder to get along with – though you declare you wouldn’t be! 3063-1
(09:35:04) (Bill) Working with this teaching at the material level can help us to learn to apply it at deeper levels. If we can make a habit to share the best of our material possessions with others, it will come naturally to give our most profound feelings of love and caring as well.
(09:35:40) (Bill) “Few of us have found the love that . . . prevents us from being disappointed in things, in people, and in conditions.”
(09:36:01) (Bill) Here is a good standard by which we can measure our efforts to be loving. If we find ourselves becoming disappointed in others, we have not loved as deeply as we potentially can. The act of love is complete within its self; it odes not demand justification or reinforcement from the responses of others. Hoping for an act to be rewarded is a contradiction of the law of loving.
(09:36:56) (Bill) Q-42. What is the law of love?
(09:37:13) (Bill) A-42. Giving. As is given in this injunction, “Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself.” As is given in the injunction, “Love Thy Lord Thy God with all Thine Heart, Thine Soul and Thine Body.” In this, as in many, we see upon the physical or earth or material plane the manifestations of the law, without the law itself.
(09:37:47) (Bill) . With any condition we find as this, which is the manifestation of the opposite of the law of love. The gift, the giving, with hope of reward or pay is direct opposition of the law of love. 3744-4
(09:38:24) (Bill) Through prayer, meditation, dreams, and daily loving activity, ever listen to that “still small voice within,” we can awaken the glory that was ours before the self, the world, and physical life became so over whelming. It is a joyful way to live. As Cayce said, “God is Law.” But then added, “and the law is Love.” A loving, listening, and cooperating spirit helps us reawaken to and reunite with the Source of true happiness, peace, and joy.
(09:39:16) (Bill) For, as each entity, each soul will find in its journey through materiality, it is the will to do this or that, or to attempt to force that which is the desire or purpose in self; and thus it may build that as may become a barrier to even that innately sought, or it may bring the awareness of the universal consciousness of love.
(09:39:57) (Bill) Love in its broader sense is the motivative influence, then as to that which is creative. For love is giving, and spirit of same is never demanding.1703-3
(09:40:32) (Bill) A good way in which we can evaluate ourselves on this point is to ask, “Through my behavior was I trying to elicit a particular response?” if we felt disappointed or frustrated with the other person’s way of responding to us, then the answer to that question must be “yes.”
(09:41:08) (Bill) Love requires a total presence in the now. When a part of our concern is directed toward the future and toward how the person will react to what are we doing or saying, then we have cut ourselves off from loving.
(09:41:35) (Bill) Consider this: Love others by being present in the now and by giving without trying to elicit a particular response.
(09:42:01) (Bill) “For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: Now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I have been known.”
(09:42:30) (Bill) Love is not emotional attachment, although emotion may accompany the experience of love. To love is to see reality and respond to it. That which is real and eternal about another person extends far deeper than just the physical body or the personality.
(09:42:59) (Bill) . Love does not merely hope that this more profound reality might exist; love knows that it does exist because love experiences it. If we insist on a definition of love that requires emotional attachment, we will probably miss this more encompassing kind of love.
(09:44:02) (Bill) Is there really the desire to know love, or to know the experience of someone having and emotion over self? Is it a desire to be itself expended in doing that which may be helpful or constructive? This can be done, but it will require the losing of self, as have been indicated, in service for others.1786-2
(09:44:49) (Gordito) You really have to live It , to Understand It otherwise you never will, and to harbor resentment or ill will towards another means you've missed It by a mile.
(09:45:03) (Bill) “The challenge of love is not so much as to give something up as it is to add something.
(09:45:26) (Bill) Something I felt was relevant to this study (unconditional love) since the topic of discussion often leads to religions is a definition of the Christ.
(09:45:36) (Andrew) Remember He said- Even the hairs on your heads are counted...
(09:45:41) (Gordito) I think it is harder fopr man to give up self then it is to Receive Him.
(09:45:52) (Bill) There are frequent references to the Christ throughout the Cayce readings. Finding them many people wonder if this material is limited to Christians. However, the Search for God material is meant to be universal. It honors all religions and individuals.
(09:46:12) (Bill) The Christ Consciousness was described in the readings as the awareness within every soul of its oneness with God, which is imprinted as a pattern on the mind, and awaiting to be awakened by the will.
(09:46:37) (Bill) Therefore, simply put, the Christ Consciousness is the individual awareness of our oneness with God.
(09:47:09) (Bill) Now some things for each of us to think about! then we'll review
(09:47:25) (Bill) Ponder the following line from the text: “the power of love is unlimited.” Remember, “Loving those who are imperfect is no more than God does for me.” What situation in my life might be separating me from the “love of God.” Ponder this line: “Love never dies; it is eternal.”
(09:47:45) (Gordito) It is the Manifestation of That Portion of God Given so that the world, His Children, should have a Pattern as to how they should be.
(09:48:18) (Bill) Do I ever feel that I am being guided and protected by guardian angels? Are there areas in my life where I’m limiting the power of love? Are there any difficult situations or conditions in your life where you can apply this thought: ‘Since God wants me to overcome this hardship, the means will be provided”?
(09:49:18) (Bill) can I remember an experience from my past which I thought was a problem but now recognize as a blessing? Reflect on this passage from the text: “Love is God. The whole law is fulfilled in these three words.” Am I ready to except that true love has no place for hate? Does hate still lodge somewhere in my heart?
(09:49:53) (Bill) Every one of my thoughts – both loving and unloving – are constantly molding the situations, activities, and even other people in my life. In most of my relationships with others, do I offer my love to them unselfishly or does my love frequently expect something in return?
(09:50:23) (Bill) Well that’s the material for our lesson in love, we now know it all that’s left is that we apply it :o)
(09:50:32) (Andrew) With Love, Anything is Possible (movie Brigadoon)
(09:50:43) (Gordito) The most important part Bill.
(09:51:05) (Bill) yes One
(09:51:30) (MaryAnne) A comment I would have on the giving part...I have often found that when we want to "help" someone what we really are trying to do is make them pleasing to ourselves.
(09:51:51) (Bill) well i've posted everything i could find on this subject and hopeing we've all gain some understanding
(09:52:04) (BlackWolf) Like converting them to our viewpoints, MaryAnne? :o)
(09:52:10) (Cris) We appreciate it Bill
(09:52:16) (Gordito) Understanding will only come with aplication Bill.
(09:52:26) (Bill) Yes MayAnne that is often the case
(09:52:36) (Roz) or giving what we need to give instead of what they need
(09:52:49) (MaryAnne) Yes, BW that is certainly a part of what I was thinking.
(09:52:57) (Gordito) That is the same thing Roz.
(09:53:03) (MaryAnne) Yes, Roz...that as well.
(09:53:16) (Gordito) What you need to give is in His Will, and what they need is in His Will.
(09:53:27) (BlackWolf) Question, how does one apply this? :o)
(09:53:50) (Gordito) By letting go of that which keeps you from loving everyone.
(09:53:52) (Bill) learning how to give as well as learning how to receive is also important
(09:54:15) (MaryAnne) I have always had a problem with receiving...a great flaw of mine
(09:54:30) (Lory) The receiving part is harder than the giving part most of the time for me.
(09:55:23) (Bill) BW as the Spirit moves you :o)
(09:55:31) (Cris) Most women are so used to nurturing that it is hard to let themselves be taken care of or in some cases accept care or love from others
(09:56:09) (Gordito) Spirit can only move you when self has been laid aside.
(09:56:31) (Gordito) And self is what keeps you from loving everyone.
(09:56:43) (MaryAnne) As long as we do not forget that a good healthy self-respect is good for us, Gordito
(09:56:55) (Lory) It is really hard to truly love everyone......
(09:57:02) (Bill) not allowing your ego to interfear giving with no strings
(09:57:14) (MaryAnne) Our very hardest lesson, I think, Lory
(09:57:27) (MaryAnne) Exactly Bill
(09:57:42) (Lory) Surely God will forgive us that fault and bless us for the intent of trying.....
(09:57:47) (Gordito) You respect yourself by Becoming What You Were At Your Inception.
(09:57:58) (Andrew) If I am not for me, then who is ? Hillel
(09:58:05) (Bill) your not expected to love all the actions of others just the god part
(09:58:09) (Gordito) You will be Forgiven when you love everyone.
(09:58:27) (Gordito) If you don't love everyone, your still held accountable.
(09:59:04) (Gordito) Only when you love everyone as He Did, are you Freed from your sins.
(10:00:11) (Lory) It will surely take us all many many more life times to love as He did, Gordito.....
(10:00:18) (Gordito) No
(10:00:28) (Gordito) Mankind has always sought excuses.
(10:00:38) (Gordito) Love is the most natural thing in the world.
(10:00:54) (ernie) no i disagree
(10:00:56) (Gordito) You've all been around plenty enough lifetimes.
(10:01:00) (ernie) death is
(10:01:07) (Gordito) No Love Is.
(10:01:11) (ernie) no
(10:01:33) (Gordito) You weren't Born out of death, you were Born out of Love.
(10:01:44) (Andrew) You Only Live Twice- Once When You're Born and once when You Look Death in the Face....
(10:01:44) (Gordito) And God is Love.
(10:01:50) (ernie) love is very confusing and complex
(10:02:02) (Lory) Gordito, can you truly say that you love everyone on earth, unconditionally, every moment of every day?
(10:02:06) (ernie) \death is natural and inevetable
(10:02:12) (Gordito) Yes.
(10:02:18) (ernie) then say that
(10:02:21) (ernie) God
(10:02:26) (Cris) Even when born out of love you must learn what it means to love before you can freely give unconditional love
(10:02:35) (Gordito) Loving is just step one.
(10:03:03) (ernie) lory that is the quest
(10:03:09) (Gordito) Love is the most natural thing in the world, you were Born Out Of Love.
(10:03:12) (Cris) many people are not born in circumstances that allow that
(10:03:27) (ernie) if every one did the 8 would be
(10:03:55) (MaryAnne) I agree, Cris.
(10:04:08) (Bill) Cris in every circumstance there are those that do
(10:04:09) (Gordito) Mankind just fights It because of their lowerself nature which deceives............Can you say satan?
(10:04:10) (Cris) think poverty, neglect and parents who simply tolerate their children they never teach them how to love
(10:04:25) (ernie) satan
(10:04:37) (Lory) If love is so natural, Gordito, why then is selfishness the most prevalent among humans?
(10:04:46) (Cris) It takes loving parents or loving people to teach what selfless love is all about
(10:04:52) (Bill) lower self Lory
(10:04:54) (Gordito) I just gave that answer to that Lory.
(10:05:07) (Cris) not everyone is lucky enough to have that in their lives
(10:05:33) (Cris) Those of us who did were tryly blessed
(10:05:38) (Bill) not so much luck Cris as faceing past choices
(10:05:50) (Gordito) Yes application Bill.
(10:05:52) (Atom) a lot of kid are bron out of lust also
(10:05:52) (Lory) I was typing when your answer came up, Gordito and Bill, however the lower self is natural, too, is it not?
(10:06:10) (Gordito) No the lower self is not natural
(10:06:24) (BlackWolf) Lower self gets hypnotized, by its reaction mechanisms.
(10:06:26) (Bill) so Atom if you choice where to be born where does that come into the pic. ?
(10:06:28) (Gordito) Love is natural. We were born out of Love
(10:06:31) (Lory) Explan please, Gordito.
(10:06:37) (Gordito) Not out of selfishness
(10:07:08) (Gordito) The lower self nature was created in giving expressioin to those desires outside of God's Will or Plan
(10:07:11) (Bill) Created
(10:07:13) (Gordito) This was not natural
(10:07:24) (Gordito) Yet it was a natural consequence
(10:08:07) (Lory) But He gave us free will. Was that so we would learn the hard way? Would we not need to start at the lower self in order to know the difference?
(10:08:09) (Andrew) If my lower self is not natural, then what is it doing attached to my higher self ?
(10:08:44) (Gordito) As Cayce gave...no sooner did God give man Free Will, did man think, not all His children, that meant going against God
(10:08:47) (Cris) I've worked with people who have known nothing but dispair in their lives when I taught remedial reading they didn't have loving adults in their lives - most had absent fathers and nobody to call on when problems arose
(10:09:19) (Cris) They couldn't trust or love
(10:09:21) (Gordito) Your lower self natur is not attached to your HIgher Self, Andrew
(10:09:31) (Gordito) it seperates you from your Higher Self
(10:09:38) (Gordito) the two don't mix
(10:09:50) (Gordito) they are like oil and water
(10:09:53) (friend_to_mankind) he gone
(10:09:57) (Bill) in the beinging we were created perfect it was in makeing the choice to express our free will we fell from God's grace and are working our way back
(10:09:57) (Lory) I guess our arguing sent three of chatters to dreamland.....
(10:10:03) (Gordito) I know
(10:10:08) (MaryAnne) Cayce gave a reading on a boy who killed his parents...he said the human soul can only bear so much disappointment...
(10:10:09) (Cris) In time some of thsose students did learn to love themselves but some never fully learned to trust
(10:10:15) (Gordito) Yes Bill.
(10:10:29) (Gordito) But I'm merely stating we all are developed enough to Love everyone.
(10:10:43) (Bill) Lory there's a differnce between discussing and arguing
(10:11:21) (Lory) Not so different, Bill.......would debate be a better word?
(10:11:38) (MaryAnne) I love our discussions...don't consider them arguing most of the time, Lory
(10:11:47) (Gordito) Neither do I.
(10:12:04) (MaryAnne) I love a sharing of ideas. I am sorry when some become offended.
(10:12:14) (Gordito) Yes.
(10:12:34) (Lory) Sorry, my choice of words was inadequate.
(10:12:54) (Cris) My only point is even though we may be developed enough to love early circumstances can make it difficult for people to reach out when all they have known is pain or rejection
(10:12:55) (Bill) we must go over this material from every point of view in order to fully understand where each is coming from and hpefully gain some insight
(10:13:06) (Gordito) Yes Bill.
(10:13:12) (Gordito) And well worth the time and effort.
(10:13:31) (Cris) A thinking adult can choose love if they so desire
(10:13:39) (Gordito) If one's convictions are solidly based, nothing can shake them.
(10:13:50) (Gordito) True enough Cris.
(10:13:59) (Lory) I am really playing the devil's advocate here. I believe I am very close to loving everyone, although I am sure I fall occasionally.
(10:14:44) (MaryAnne) You are definitely a loving soul, Lory...very close....we all seem to fall short sometimes, alas.
(10:14:47) (Gordito) Why do you feel you do not love everyone?
(10:15:30) (Lory) Perhaps I do, Gordito, I just don't like some of the things many people do. Does that make a difference?
(10:15:40) (Gordito) Yes.
(10:15:46) (Gordito) You don't have to love their actions.
(10:15:54) (Gordito) Just the part of them that's God.
(10:16:02) (Lory) But that is not unconditional is it?
(10:16:15) (Gordito) Sure it is. It's wise to judge actions.
(10:16:37) (Gordito) Just no one unworthy of the Love shown the Creator's Companions.
(10:17:12) (Gordito) You have to separate the action from the person.
(10:17:31) (Gordito) Just like a cold or flu is not right for the body.
(10:17:49) (Gordito) It's just the mind being dis-eased.
(10:18:10) (Gordito) Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.
(10:18:47) (Gordito) Just like no one wants to get a cold or the flu, just weren't being smart enough at the time and it allowed the cold or flu to come in.
(10:18:54) (MaryAnne) We are allowed justified anger, Gordito
(10:19:01) (Lory) Not sure your words are completely understandable, Gordito. It sounds rather like condescending. :-)
(10:19:08) (Gordito) You don't dislike anyone because they have a cold or the flu.
(10:19:15) (Gordito) No. It is the same thing.
(10:19:19) (Bill) thats is also a slippery slope MaryAnne
(10:19:34) (Gordito) Actions out of context come from dis-eased mind.
(10:19:38) (MaryAnne) Yes, it is Bill
(10:19:44) (Gordito) Body out of context comes from dis-eased body.
(10:20:04) (Gordito) If they were in His Truth, they would act accordingly.
(10:20:15) (Gordito) But because they are not, they are filled with dis-ease.
(10:21:41) (Gordito) Few act wrong because they know they are pooping on God.
(10:21:52) (Gordito) They act wrong because they don't realize it.
(10:22:17) (Lory) Then we should love them in their innocence, Gordito....
(10:22:29) (Gordito) If everyone truly realized the consequences of their actions, they wouldn't act that way.
(10:22:48) (Gordito) We should Love them because God Commands us to. And He gave us Life to be His Companion.
(10:23:08) (Gordito) That takes the guess work out of it.
(10:23:33) (Bill) Lory do you find it easier to love and smiling cheerful soul than a frowning gloomy one if so that is wrongful judgement
(10:23:37) (Gordito) Love isn't an option......It Is Law.
(10:24:19) (Bill) its only in the hurtful actions of other we may judge accordingly
(10:24:45) (Gordito) Yes and judge the action as wrong.
(10:24:49) (Lory) Not at all, Bill. I do believe I see and love everyone as a child of God. In fact I am drawn to the downcast and unhappy persons. Hoping to make their lives better.
(10:25:13) (Gordito) Such as Catholic priests having sex with young altar boys is just wrong.
(10:25:30) (Lory) You are passing judgment, Gordito
(10:25:33) (Gordito) Yet you still have to Love the sick pups.
(10:25:44) (Gordito) No. We may judge actions
(10:25:50) (Bill) no Gordito is correct it is wrong
(10:26:24) (Lory) I am not saying it is not wrong, I am saying we do not have the authority to pass judgment on any soul other than our own.....
(10:26:33) (Gordito) And I said, their mind's are ill.
(10:26:50) (Gordito) Least they would not do such a thing.
(10:26:58) (Lory) And we try to heal illness, do we not?
(10:27:10) (Gordito) Does that mean I Love them any less, no. They probably need more Love even.
(10:27:24) (Gordito) Of course. That doesn't mean you condone their actions.
(10:27:48) (Gordito) And it doesn't mean you allow them to remain in positions of authority.
(10:28:33) (Bill) Jesus and Cayce both told us to judge a tree by its fruits
(10:28:44) (Gordito) Yes Bill.
(10:28:49) (Lory) Bill, your chats surely do bring on spirited discussions, I must say.
(10:29:04) (Bill) good!
(10:29:07) (Lory) And I love you all.
(10:29:11) (Gordito) Yes
(10:29:23) (WalksInSpirit) I love you too, Grandmother!
(10:29:30) (WalksInSpirit) And everyone else, too!
(10:29:35) (BlackWolf) By their acts you shall know them. Perhaps also by their intentions? What when one causes harm by mis-application or by ignorance?
(10:29:35) (MaryAnne) We love you too, Lory
(10:30:29) (Gordito) If one doesn't act upon the awful things they think, there is no action to judge other than ill thinking which plagues all of mankind.
(10:31:02) (Gordito) Misapplication and ignorance are two separate things.
(10:31:24) (Gordito) If someone is ingnorant of something, Jesus would bring it to their mind.
(10:31:37) (Gordito) And He would foregive their misapplications.
(10:31:38) (BlackWolf) That is correct, but by both a person may cause harm in spite of intending good.
(10:31:46) (Bill) BW if it were by misapplication or ignorance of the act as long as the intentions are of the highest nature then you are not held acountable
(10:32:00) (Gordito) The pathway to hell is paved with good intentions it is written.
(10:32:15) (Gordito) But it is better to have good intentions to be sure as God judges the try.
(10:32:15) (Bill) by ingnorance and don't mean carelessness
(10:33:11) (Gordito) Yet God does offer A Way Out.
(10:33:31) (Gordito) Free of all the pitfalls and frustrations brought about thru the human condition.
(10:33:49) (MaryAnne) Sometimes we just have to wait...not seeing the way out.
(10:33:53) (Gordito) But you must humble yourself and allow Him to drive for a time.
(10:34:23) (Gordito) He Is The Way Out MaryAnne
(10:35:16) (Gordito) We don't know The Way.
(10:35:20) (MaryAnne) That may be true, Gordito...it is a matter of interpretation of what is meant.
(10:35:36) (MaryAnne) Are we not to learn the Way, Gordito?
(10:35:42) (Gordito) So if you let Him drive, you get Home.
(10:35:47) (Gordito) Yes.
(10:35:57) (Gordito) In becoming It.
(10:36:02) (Bill) well i feel we do know the way we just must trust our intuition(God self)
(10:36:20) (Gordito) He Is The Way.
(10:36:24) (MaryAnne) I would definitely agree with that Bill.
(10:36:47) (Gordito) Jesus never said I Know the Way. He always said I Am The Way.
(10:37:09) (Bill) The Christ Consciousness was described in the readings as the awareness within every soul of its oneness with God, which is imprinted as a pattern on the mind, and awaiting to be awakened by the will.
(10:37:20) (Gordito) Exactly Bill.
(10:37:39) (Gordito) And then some.
(10:38:11) (Gordito) Cayce also gave, The Spirit of Christ manifests the consciousness or gives direction to the consciousness.
(10:38:23) (Bill) yes Gordito we must have the will to apply it
(10:38:23) (Gordito) It only becomes clear thru application.
(10:38:33) (Gordito) Yes. What we just said.
(10:39:03) (ephemera) I think Cayce had it right about the Christ Consciousness.
(10:39:45) (ephemera) I've never read that reading however...
(10:39:51) (Gordito) In Spirit meanings often come thru multi-dimensionally which can't be expressed correctly in a three dimentional reality.
(10:40:57) (Gordito) That was why Cayce gave only The Christ Consciousness can interpret the readings corrections.
(10:41:03) (Bill) btw BW i'm not sure how you can apply this in your lessons for passing grades :o)
(10:41:12) (Gordito) interpret the readings correctly.
(10:41:31) (BlackWolf) Lessons of applications, Bill. :o)
(10:42:20) (BlackWolf) *resolves to not throw textbook across room*
(10:42:18) (Atom) thanks Bill and All,...and good night
(10:42:27) (patricia) Thank you very much Bill. goodnight
(10:44:06) (WalksInSpirit) Bill, thanks for a great chat tonight!
(10:44:17) (Bill) your very welcome
(10:44:26) (kim) yup thanks bill, goodnight
(10:44:30) (MaryAnne) Yes, Bill, it was to the point as usual...I always enjoy it.
(10:46:08) (Bill) TY MaryAnne seems to get some involment and opinions expressed
