Dream Chat: 07-22-05
(host-merri) well I have some more postings for you from the Kabbalah and the Power of Dreaming
(host-merri) We live in a world made recognizable through patterns and forms and, should they disappear, this world becomes lost to us. We find both our pleasure and pain in patterns and forms and have a love/hate relationship with them. And while we would feel totally naked and vulnerable without a sense of boundaries (left brain), at the same time we long to escape their imprisonment (right brain).
(host-merri) Haven’t we all struggled to break from forms? To be free of them for just one moment? To return back, in our minds eye, to the nothingness before the beginning? It is a quasi-impossible task, for the left brain’s vice-like hold on us is very powerful.
(host-merri) Yet every day of our lives we witness such a moment, as the vanishing sun returns shapes to the darkness from whence they came. Dusk is the sacred time given to us to witness the disappearance of forms, followed by dawn, the wondrous moment when shapes miraculously reappear.
(host-merri) Once you understand that, in perceiving your world you CREATE it, you are then ready to understand how what you are attracted to defines the way you see the world and yourself. Since you gravitate only towards certain configurations and ignore others, your worldview is essentially limited and your beliefs about your possibilities are also restricted.
(host-merri) Pattern, by definition, has boundaries and shape. We could say that you are dreaming your reality. But your dream is hemmed in by what you choose to focus on. Only when you look beyond the dream you are caught in can you imagine a new reality.
(host-merri) Eventually your dream may enlarge to include the whole world and beyond. Remember that only that towards which you gravitate becomes a reality for you. The rest is mainly lost to you. By simply becoming aware of your possibilities you begin the process of enlarging your dream. By asking yourself what you are missing, you are opening yourself up to the prospect of new realities.
(host-merri) The Bible creation myth tells us we are the manifest reality of God. Since we are the dream of God, we are God, and therefore co-creators in the world’s creation. But we get caught in the unpacking of the dream and get bogged down in realities the obscure the greater reality. We have the freedom to change our realities to reflect more and more of the total reality that is God.
(host-merri) Explore your imagination and the “inner world”.
(host-merri) Tonight when you go to bed, allow yourself to relax completely. Close your eyes. Make sure you remain alert. Don’t allow yourself any inner dialogue. Push away all thoughts by sweeping them out of your mind to the left. Remain in a restful, suspended empty
(host-merri) watchful state. Soon you will “see” flashing colors, strange disconnected images, whole scenes in vivid detail. Under your closed eyelids these appear and disappear, just as quickly to be replaced by others. Don’t try to hold on to them. Just watch. Soon you will naturally sink into sleep. Allow that to happen.
(host-merri) These phenomena are called “hypnagogic images,” after the Greek god Hypnos, who brings hypnosis and sleep. These images appear at the threshold between waking and sleeping, when all of your habitual processes are reversed (you are lying down, not
(host-merri) standing; your eyes are closed, not open; your muscles are relaxed, not working). You are too relaxed to want to manipulate your images, and thus this hidden inner world-the reverse of the outer world- comes out to play.
(host-merri) I think this is something most of you are familiar with

(host-merri) The inner world does not disappear because you are awake. Imagine the moon is the inner world, the sun the outer world. The moon continues to exist even though it has disappeared from sight. It does not cease to exist even though it has disappeared from sight. It does not cease to affect the oceans and our bodily fluids while the sun illuminates this side of the planet.
(host-merri) We can say that on one side of the mirror it is always night, on the other side it is always day. Our body is the interface (receiver, transmitter), our perceptual screen, the mirror for both worlds. Since both worlds exist simultaneously, can we not see the equally at the same time and make them one?
(host-merri) will have more on this next week, diane
