"The Kidneys And The Bladder"
(08:26:09) (Nick) OK we will continue on the kidneys, those organs which do so much to keep our blood alkaline so as to prolong our good health. Please let the greeter greet eveyone until, topic is over. :o)
(08:26:55) (Nick) The reabsorption of water back into the bloodstream is one of the ,most important functions that hte kidneys perform.
(08:29:07) (Nick) This is done by the collecting duct, and the permeabliity of the membranes in the tubules is controlled by the hormone antidiuretic hormone ADH.
(08:30:53) (Nick) The secretion of the ADH is stimulated by chemical receptors in the hypothalamus, which respond to the levels of sodium and other ionsin the blood. This is why excess sodium in the diet can lead to false signals to the kidneys about how much water to retain in the bloodstream.
(08:32:36) (WalksInSpirit) Nick, what does ADH stand for?
(08:33:40) (Nick) The kidneys also release a hormone called renin, which activates the production of angiotensin II which stimulates the thirst sensation.
(08:33:57) (Nick) ADH = antidiuretic hormone.
(08:34:29) (WalksInSpirit) Ok, I got that, but I was wondering about the full name?
(08:34:49) (Nick) Also the hormone aldosterone regulates the water reabsorption along with the renin-angiotensin pair.
(08:35:12) (merri) too much salt in diet causes the body to retain water?
(08:35:14) (WalksInSpirit) I take a fluid pill called Aldactone, is why I was askin.
(08:36:03) (Nick) I cannot find its formula anywhere, WalksinSpirit.
(08:36:11) (WalksInSpirit) Thought it might be related.
(08:37:45) (WalksInSpirit) Thanks Nick. I appreciate your looking anyway. :-)
(08:37:50) (Nick) Yes, merri, this is because the blood needs the concentration of salts, to be within a certain range. Sodium is different to most other metals in which an excess is just excreted, like potassium and magnesium.
(08:39:04) (Nick) What happens then is that the body in order to maintain the concentration of ions within the coreect limits, ends up excreting other minerals which are needed while the sodium levels stay high.
(08:39:06) (merri) TY, Nick
(08:40:11) (merri) what are some of the signs if there is too much salt in your diet?
(08:40:20) (Nick) Sodium is special because it is needed in the neurons to fire the signlas at the synapses for proper nerve impulse transmission. This is why its levels are regulated differently to other metal ions.
(08:41:04) (Nick) High blood pressure, dark urine, prequent but scanty urination and always being thirsty.
(08:41:26) (WalksInSpirit) I swell too.
(08:41:28) (merri) so much of our food has salt added to it
(08:42:13) (Nick) So true, not just salt, but pepper, and lifeless chemical sugar as well as MSG and other horrible chemicals.
(08:42:34) (Cris) MSG gives me migraines
(08:42:52) (Cris) do you know why it triggers them?
(08:43:01) (Nick) I can't stand MSG :oP
(08:43:06) (merri) salt is also a perservative it is added for that purpose only
(08:44:12) (Nick) Not really, some people are more sensitive than others, do you take magnesium supplements, though?
(08:45:04) (Cris) no
(08:45:37) (Nick) MSG stimulates the appetite and makes you hungry, so when fast food places put it in your food you buy more food, just like the tobacco companies put nicotine sulfate in commercial cigarettes to make you smoke more. :oP
(08:46:34) (Nick) You might try magnesium supplements, or eating more raw fruits, not with proteins though :o)
(08:47:53) (Nick) Now, ailments of the kidneys and bladder. First of all are the kidney stones.
(08:49:19) (Mrs_WIS) I have a good page about salt
(08:49:42) (Nick) For the most part the kidneys can filter 7 - 8 times the amount of wastes that a human body might accumulate in its lifetime. Therefore the kidneys are not a weakpoint in the human body. With the awful modern diet, the kidneys are becoming overloaded though.
(08:49:57) (Mrs_WIS) www.edgarcayce.org/venture_inward/05062002/nutrition.htm
(08:53:13) (Nick) We saw the last two weeks how the kidneys become overloade with acidic wastes from excess protein consumption. We also understood how gooey fats can form nodules and crystals in the kidneys and the ureters where stones can start to grow.
(08:54:48) (Nick) Now, while the kidneys can excrete the urea and uric acid formed as well as the other wastes, the human body will have an alkaline bloodstream and degenerative diseases will not start.
(08:56:50) (Nick) To keep one's blood alkaline one needs to eat and combine the right foods. But also, remember to deep breathe throughout the day. This not only eliminates the CO2 buildup the blood but also promotes circulation which prevetns stagnant areas of non circiulated blood to build up.
(08:58:46) (Nick) It is when the kidneys start loosing their battle to keep the blood alkaline that, dental decay, inflamed blood vessels, aching joints, poor eyesight, disgestive disorders and skin reactions occur.
(08:59:26) (Lory) That deep breathing really works, Nick. It not only does what you say it does, but it makes me sit straighter and feel perkier. :-)
(08:59:32) (Roz) what kind of skin reactions Nick
(09:00:31) (Nick) Pimples, boils, rashes, cases where the skin is trying to help out the kidneys.
(09:04:03) (Nick) For the most part our kidneys serve as a thermometer of our bloodstream. We can either live out lives as long as our kidneys will allow us to, or we can cruise through a long life, with an alkaline bloodstream without the ailments that modern medicine describes as being age-related.
(09:05:18) (Nick) Rememeber also about combining foods properly, proteins with vegetables are not nearly as acidic as fruits and steak for example. :o)
(09:05:40) (Nick) OK, I think I have put eveyone to sleep already, so .....has anyone any questions? :o)
(09:06:30) (merri) since Scott told us about proper food combo's I haven't had a single case of indigestion!
(09:06:34) (mark) Nick, would the apple fast help with the kidneys?
(09:08:21) (Nick) Yes, the raw apples, would mechanically clean out the digestive tract, removing any wastes which may have been fermenting there for years (school lunches for example) and also think the blood, since there will be no fats nor proteins being transported around.
(09:09:21) (Mrs_WIS) so can we combine fruits with Whey and soy milk?
(09:09:28) (merlin) how about v8?
(09:10:55) (Nick) A lot of controversy on fruits and soy (a bean) and whey (dairy), different books and methods answer this in different ways.
(09:11:33) (Nick) V-8 is good, but not with fruits, best would be with succulents and veggies.
(09:12:46) (Nick) I am on my first day of apples fast, I found some cheap fujis and got hold of a couple of dozen.
(09:14:21) (mark) Nick how many apple fast do you think you have done?
(09:15:28) (Nick) Probably about 15. I like them so much I have almost forgotten about distilled water fasts.
(09:16:01) (mark) ty
(09:16:44) (Cris) do they help you lose weight?
(09:17:36) (Nick) Yes, the apples fast allowed me to lose weight whereas the distilled water fasts did not after the first three or four.
(09:18:57) (Nick) Now, one of the things the Cayce readings recommended for losign weight was tot drink a cupful of 50/50 concord grape juice and water one half hour before each meal and just before gpoing to bed. Uncertain as to why.
(09:20:15) (Nick) Perhaps the bioflavinoids in the grape juice keep the fats in the blood from dropping out into plaque and building the labanza. :o)
(09:20:26) (merlin) and satisfying the appetite
(09:20:42) (Nick) Yes, one does not eat as much
(09:21:01) (merlin) labanza................what's that nick?
(09:21:15) (Nick) As glass of water immediately before a meal can have the same effect.
(09:21:49) (Nick) That is an Italian expression for the spare tire some of us have around our middle. :o)
