"Lessons Five: Virtue & Understanding
(09:29:37) (Bill) AFFIRMATION: Let virtue and understanding be in me, for my defense is in Thee O lord, my Redeemer; for Thou hearest the prayer of the upright in heart. (262-17, A-14.) Amen
(09:29:50) (Cris) Amen
(09:30:06) (Eileen) amen
(09:30:15) (merri) Amen
(09:30:18) (WalksInSpirit) Nunwe
(09:30:19) (Raleigh) amen
(09:30:22) (patricia) amen
(09:33:00) (Bill) okay we're off like a herd of turtles starting with personal experiences: not mine btw
(09:33:12) (Bill) “I have found the way. It is through divine love, and it is for all who desire it. I prayed seven years for divine love. It is a living thing within me, giving me strength to love those who have wronged me, giving me the sight so see good in those who would do evil.
(09:33:43) (Bill) . It is in me the healing power. I give thanks that I now recognize the God within me who is helping me to express divine qualities.”
(09:34:01) (ky-mike) an bless them that hate u
(09:34:39) (Eileen) your personal experience Bill, or part of the lesson?
(09:34:43) (Bill) If we would have virtue, then let us step out on faith ~~ faith in the purity of self, faith in the perfection of our brothers, and faith in the promises of God. Virtue is the reward of faith, and understanding is the reward of virtue.
(09:35:01) (Eileen) ok
(09:35:22) (Bill) Through faith the veil is lifted and we can go within ourselves, within the holy of holies and be transformed into the image and likeness of the Son of God.
(09:35:25) (Eileen) can we comment as you go, Bill, or should we wait until the end?
(09:35:50) (Bill) your choice just stick to the subject :o)
(09:35:59) (Eileen) thanks
(09:36:14) (Eileen) which would you prefer?
(09:36:18) (Bill) “I did not feel I had the necessary virtue to an upright life. After much thought and meditation, the words came to me. ‘Faith is the chief cornerstone.’ This helped me, for I knew that I could exercise faith.
(09:36:26) (lilith) :the veil is lifted" is one powerful statement
(09:36:47) (Bill) . I then began to give thanks that I, through faith in the Christ, had virtue, a cleansing of body, soul, and spirit. Understanding came to me.”
(09:36:56) (Eileen) shifts me into 3rd gear, and things start to make sense
(09:37:14) (Bill) We must have implicit faith in God and in His promises, if we would have the cleansing power of His Spirit manifesting in our lives. We must have full faith in our brother, if we hope to be as pure as we demand him to be.
(09:37:33) (Eileen) Lordy
(09:37:47) (Bill) We must have more faith in ourselves and in the power of the Spirit ever ready to manifest in and through us, if we expect to do our greatest work. Unless we have faith, how can we expect to see the glories of God? He that doubts is condemned. It is only through faith that we are justified, for belief in God is counted unto us for righteousness.
(09:38:41) (Bill) Virtue Is a Defense, Understanding Is a Weapon: Virtue has the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit. It strengthens the spiritual quality of man and engenders a greater knowledge of the Maker and a greater faith in Him. The more we open our hearts as a channel of blessings to others, the more power we possess.
(09:39:15) (Bill) Keeping the channel clear, open and ready to be used, we see the seemingly impossible begin to take place and we come to realize that no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper. Happy are we when protected by the impregnable defense found in the same pureness of ourselves that we demand of others.
(09:40:25) (Eileen) answer to a prayer
(09:40:44) (Bill) As with virtue comes understanding, so with understanding comes divine light. Understanding is a strong and tried weapon whose blade is never bent. It has ever been a weapon in the endless warfare for truth.
(09:41:13) (Bill) When once the enemy is conquered, he is at the same time won as an ally, for he stands in awe in the presence of a power that gives an understanding of his real intents and purposes. Only with virtue and understanding can we rise above the tumult in the battle of life, and, with the Master, pass through the midst of it and go our way. How simple when we understand! How wonderful when we are pure in heart, pure in mind, and pure in spirit.
(09:42:01) (lilith) ah Bill, how many of us are pure in spirit? not many, not I
(09:42:11) (Eileen) wonderful
(09:42:16) (Bill) The Effects of Virtue and Understanding on Ourselves and Others: Virtue and understanding have to do primarily with ourselves and with our relationship to the Creative Forces. They are reflected in our judgment of others; for our conduct is a reflection of our inner thoughts. To think nobly is to act nobly. It is a privilege to think provided we think with a mind that is in tune with the ideal that is set in the Christ.
(09:42:16) (Raleigh) i am\
(09:42:50) (Eileen) blessed
(09:43:09) (Bill) We may compare the daily building of ourselves, mentally, physically and spiritually, to the construction of a house. Are we choosing those attributes that will help our development? Are we casting aside the imperfect stones, using only the good?
(09:43:09) (lilith) am striving - not attained
(09:43:24) (Raleigh) i am
(09:43:29) (Eileen) very blessed
(09:43:35) (Bill) ? Are we placing them evenly in line? Are we ready to be passed on by the divine Inspector? If we can answer these questions in the affirmative, then we are hastening our development toward God. The quality of the structure depends upon us and upon us only. We are building for ourselves either hovels or holy temples.
(09:44:07) (Eileen) how beautiful this is
(09:44:22) (Bill) No man liveth to himself. How we live, act and think not only are reflected in ourselves, but also have their effect upon others. As we put into practice love, mercy, justice, patience and forgiveness, others catch the same spirit. This is illustrated by one who came in contact with those who had received spiritual cleansing.
(09:45:28) (Bill) . “They made me better,” she said, “gave me back my living faith, instilled in me a desire to realize ~~ that God lives and is speaking through men. They gave me hope and new interest in life. Before I met them my worship was form; afterwards it became more spiritual and I began to reach out for the joy that seemed to be theirs.”
(09:46:03) (Bill) Finally, we know we have passed from death unto life because we love. We know that new life now courses through us, and that a new and strange peace is ours that makes us in accord with divine will.
(09:46:35) (Bill) . What we once despised now we cherish, and the world we formerly cherished now ceases to attract. We give thanks to God for this unspeakable gift of spiritual understanding which is now ours through the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit.
(09:47:27) (Bill) May the following words be ever upon our lips: “Let virtue and understanding be in me, for my defense is in Thee, O Lord, my Redeemer; for Thou hearest the prayer of the upright in heart.” (262-17, A-14.)
(09:47:47) (Eileen) amazing, I have these books
(09:47:49) (Eileen) thanks Bill
(09:47:56) (Bill) Get the connection:
(09:48:01) (Bill) If we continue to think like we’ve always thought, we’ll continue to get what we’ve always got. Our daily thought choices translate into our daily actions.
(09:48:10) (Bill) Our actions accumulate to form habits. Our habits form our character. Our character attracts our circumstances. Our circumstances determine our future,
(09:48:36) (Bill) okay now we can somorize
(09:49:31) (Bill) did those individuals experiences rings any bells?
(09:49:44) (Raleigh) yes
(09:49:54) (Eileen) like someone turned on the lights, in a dark room
(09:50:00) (Roz) a whole covey of 'em
(09:50:10) (Eileen) amen, Roz
(09:51:07) (Bill) how about this statement , any comments?
(09:51:08) (Bill) Virtue Is a Defense, Understanding Is a Weapon: Virtue has the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit. It strengthens the spiritual quality of man and engenders a greater knowledge of the Maker and a greater faith in Him. The more we open our hearts as a channel of blessings to others, the more power we possess.
(09:51:10) (Roz) isnt it strange that everytime you read it it has new stuff
(09:51:49) (Eileen) I could never get this chapter before, now it seems the light is on
(09:52:00) (Raleigh) we grow in understanding and wisdom yes
(09:52:13) (WalksInSpirit) For real, Roz! It's like The Creator speaks through it and gives us what we need to hear, when we need to hear it!
(09:52:27) (Eileen) ant whither thou goest, I shall go
(09:52:48) (Bill) Keeping the channel clear, open and ready to be used, we see the seemingly impossible begin to take place and we come to realize that no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper. Happy are we when protected by the impregnable defense found in the same pureness of ourselves that we demand of others.
(09:53:20) (Eileen) nice if I could be as pure
(09:53:31) (Raleigh) yes bill
(09:53:34) (Bill) like a i've said many times critism never hurts unless it should
(09:54:31) (Raleigh) k
(09:54:38) (Raleigh) 1z
(09:54:54) (Bill) when you can truly say to yourself you are happy with your daily actions , that is when you can begin to love and respect yourself which leads to a greater ability to love others
(09:55:01) (Raleigh) that we love are the only1z that can harm you
(09:55:07) (Raleigh) ones that
(09:55:35) (Bill) Virtue is a defense against all temptation to censure, condemn, or criticize ~~ for with it we see with eyes that are looking for the pure. We see behind the vice of other souls, made in the image of their Maker. We feel that they need our love and our help along the way. With virtue within, we never retard the development of others.
(09:55:52) (Raleigh) we can only be hurt by the ones we love yes bill
(09:56:17) (Eileen) my habit, can't seem to stop criticiusing (sp)
(09:56:37) (Bill) this is one we can all learn from:Virtue is a defense against all temptation to censure, condemn, or criticize
(09:56:37) (Bill) this is one we can all learn from:Virtue is a defense against all temptation to censure, condemn, or criticize
(09:56:55) (Roz) and unwarranted criticism really doesnt hurt might just make ya uncomfortable
(09:56:57) (patricia) Bill, i seem to take two steps forward and one step back when it comes to this.
(09:56:58) (Eileen) would be wonderful to feel that never retarded the growth of anyone
(09:57:03) (Raleigh) easy to see that 1
(09:57:20) (Bill) Pat who doesn't at times :o)
(09:57:36) (Eileen) ih hindsight, darned, did it again!
(09:58:05) (Eileen) hurts me Roz, don't have the right to criticise others, or myself either, I guess
(09:58:19) (Raleigh) we are alwayz moving say tward groth princess
(09:58:21) (patricia) yep Eileen, know that felling very well
(09:58:23) (Raleigh) right
(09:58:29) (Raleigh) right----
(09:58:34) (Raleigh) or wrong
(09:58:41) (Raleigh) the thing to do
(09:58:42) (patricia) oops *feeling
(09:58:47) (Bill) i'm not saying there's anything wrong with putting some one straight , whats important is the intent that goes with the advice
(09:58:48) (Raleigh) is move/ ec
(09:59:10) (Eileen) trying to practice not doing it, like you said patricia, steps going the wrong way, in my case
(09:59:19) (Raleigh) there is really no wrong action
(09:59:26) (Bill) As with virtue comes understanding, so with understanding comes divine light. Understanding is a strong and tried weapon whose blade is never bent. It has ever been a weapon in the endless warfare for truth. When once the enemy is conquered, he is at the same time won as an ally, for he stands in awe in the presence of a power that gives an understanding of his real intents and purposes.
(09:59:30) (Raleigh) just do something

(10:00:19) (Roz) no one needs to be a door mat
(10:00:28) (Raleigh) yes roz
(10:00:32) (Raleigh) so i dont
(10:01:03) (Bill) so when we don't necessarily agree with some of the comments here its up to us to try and get an understanding of what triggered those comments
(10:01:11) (Eileen) there is a Cayce reading that says to reunite with God, do the following, never condemn, find fault, ,make accusations, and to make God's will your own
(10:01:25) (Raleigh) dont allow your good to be spoken of as evil / period
(10:01:48) (Raleigh) be no 1z dart board / ec
(10:02:01) (Eileen) got it on my wall, and still have problems remembering to do that
(10:02:23) (Bill) Only with virtue and understanding can we rise above the tumult in the battle of life, and, with the Master, pass through the midst of it and go our way. How simple when we understand! How wonderful when we are pure in heart, pure in mind, and pure in spirit.
(10:02:31) (Raleigh) others have slammed me face plant cause i type bad
(10:02:57) (Cris) Remember that what you dislike in others is often a reflection of what you dislike in yourself
(10:03:26) (Eileen) just slammed ya cause we thought you were talking about us!!! didn't know what the heck you were saying, Ral
(10:03:29) (Raleigh) so today you had an interest in arcturas

They are reflected in our judgment of others; for our conduct is a reflection of our inner thoughts. To think nobly is to act nobly.

(10:06:19) (Bill) It is a privilege to think provided we think with a mind that is in tune with the ideal that is set in the Christ. We may compare the daily building of ourselves, mentally, physically and spiritually, to the construction of a house. Are we choosing those attributes that will help our development?
(10:06:37) (friend_to_mankind) Patience is the Virtue most valued
(10:06:43) (Eileen) amazing, this is about understanding
(10:07:14) (patricia) ahh, Patience, my heart longs for patience
(10:07:18) (Eileen) sorry, Bill
(10:07:56) (Bill) Patience is not necessarily just sitting back ,patience is action at times :o0

(10:08:55) (Bill) Eileen no need to be sorry i'm just trying to be considerate for those seriouly trying to grasp this material :o)
(10:09:07) (Bill) Are we casting aside the imperfect stones, using only the good? Are we placing them evenly in line? Are we ready to be passed on by the divine Inspector? If we can answer these questions in the affirmative, then we are hastening our development toward God. The quality of the structure depends upon us and upon us only. We are building for ourselves either hovels or holy temples.
(10:09:10) (Eileen) thought we were, Bill
(10:09:53) (Eileen) so are we to not cast aside the imperfect stones?
(10:10:05) (Bill) so in that last statement any questions?
(10:10:14) (Raleigh) yes
(10:10:19) (Eileen) see mine, Bill
(10:10:31) (friend_to_mankind) Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
(10:10:40) (Raleigh) tue
(10:10:43) (Eileen) how can they be imperfect, if God made them all?
(10:10:47) (Raleigh) true
(10:11:09) (Raleigh) so do you know what that means f t m ?
(10:11:13) (Eileen) patience, hard to sit still long enough for it to come to pass
(10:11:21) (Qrious) so.. have our place so that angels will want to visit?
(10:11:34) (Bill) yes Eileen i see it , are you not responsible for building your own holy temple , do you blame God for your lower choices?
(10:11:42) (One) As Cayce gave our souls are mere shadows of Their Former Selves.
(10:11:49) (Eileen) no, Bill, how could I?
(10:12:23) (patricia) i seem to be more patient with everyone else than i am with my self. :o(
(10:12:26) (One) We destroyed what God had Created.
(10:12:34) (Bill) then should you not set aside those lower choices , ( building blocks) :o)
(10:12:44) (Eileen) impatience on both ends patricia
(10:13:14) (Bill) and now One it is up to us to rebuild
(10:13:19) (Eileen) thought we were to be understading of those we consider lesser stones
(10:13:25) (One) Yes Bill!
(10:13:43) (Qrious) building blocks.. thought forms.. virtues.. quality of emotions??
(10:14:10) (Bill) Eileen your twisting the analigy :o)
(10:14:15) (Qrious) or is it more motive orientated?
(10:14:19) (Raleigh) you also said you were a 3 to me p
(10:14:28) (Raleigh) work on that pls p
(10:14:39) (patricia) k
(10:14:55) (Eileen) wow, Bill, thought we were to be understanding of others, being the point of the analogy
(10:14:55) (Blu) Eileen are you equating people to stones?
(10:15:23) (Raleigh) hmmm ok el
(10:15:32) (Raleigh) im a diamond then
(10:15:33) (One) How is what Bill gave leading you to believe that is what he implied?
(10:15:38) (Eileen) thought that was what it meant, Blu, an analogy
(10:15:42) (Blu) no
(10:15:50) (Qrious) Its a justapose analogy Eileen.. a figure of speach to explain a thought.
(10:15:51) (patricia) Eileen, we are not talking about others, we are talking about what we are building in ourselves
(10:15:59) (Blu) The stones are what you build your own house with, they are not people
(10:16:09) (Bill) Eileen these lessons aren't about others their strickly about us and our intent, our actions and how to deal with developing them to better understand ourselves and our relationship to our Maker
(10:16:39) (Eileen) thought it was about how we view our fellow man, and understanding him
(10:16:58) (Blu) Not this particular part. Maybe you should repost it Bill
(10:17:05) (One) through the Attuning one may again become One
(10:17:15) (Bill) Are we casting aside the imperfect stones, using only the good? Are we placing them evenly in line? Are we ready to be passed on by the divine Inspector? If we can answer these questions in the affirmative, then we are hastening our development toward God. The quality of the structure depends upon us and upon us only. We are building for ourselves either hovels or holy temples.
(10:17:17) (Raleigh) view your fellow man as gods creation
(10:17:27) (Raleigh) case he is

(10:17:52) (Blu) You want to use a good stone to build yur own house with
(10:18:03) (Eileen) "judgement of others" from above statement Bill
(10:18:25) (Bill) The Effects of Virtue and Understanding on Ourselves and Others: Virtue and understanding have to do primarily with ourselves and with our relationship to the Creative Forces.
(10:18:25) (friend_to_mankind) James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire ,wanting nothing.
(10:18:30) (Raleigh) rightious judgement is not wrong
(10:18:35) (Raleigh) rightious
(10:18:45) (One) We may judge actions.
(10:18:50) (lilith) "righteous" by whose standards?
(10:18:54) (One) Cayce gave it is wise to do so.
(10:19:02) (Raleigh) with gods word yes 1

(10:22:55) (Raleigh) god said it i didnt
(10:23:27) (lilith) personally, was behind the door when patience was passed out - been struggling ever since
(10:23:30) (Bill) This is illustrated by one who came in contact with those who had received spiritual cleansing.

(10:00:13) (Raleigh) there is no bad karma / period

(10:04:10) (Bill) The Effects of Virtue and Understanding on Ourselves and Others: Virtue and understanding have to do primarily with ourselves and with our relationship to the Creative Forces. They are reflected in our judgment of others; for our conduct is a reflection of our inner thoughts. To think nobly is to act nobly.
(10:04:23) (Cris) Blessings all have to go Thanks Bill

(10:06:08) (Eileen) guess we do the best we can, Bill
(10:06:11) (Qrious) thanks Ral.. however I need to listen to Bill.
(10:06:14) (Bill) if you choose to chat do it latter please as to not disrupt

(10:08:49) (patricia) yup

(10:18:25) (friend_to_mankind) James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire ,wanting nothing.
(10:18:30) (Raleigh) rightious judgement is not wrong
(10:18:35) (Raleigh) rightious
(10:18:45) (One) We may judge actions.
(10:18:50) (lilith) "righteous" by whose standards?
(10:18:54) (One) Cayce gave it is wise to do so.
(10:19:02) (Raleigh) with gods word yes 1
(10:19:04) (Roz) right-use-ness

(10:22:55) (Raleigh) god said it i didnt
(10:23:27) (lilith) personally, was behind the door when patience was passed out - been struggling ever since
(10:23:30) (Bill) This is illustrated by one who came in contact with those who had received spiritual cleansing. “They made me better,” she said, “gave me back my living faith, instilled in me a desire to realize ~~ that God lives and is speaking through men. (10:25:48) (Raleigh) \fine
