Maruawe (Hello)!
I thought I'd share with you about my gear.
My Pride & Joy is a 2005 Epiphone Les Paul Custom - ebony with gold hardware. Her name is "Lucy."
My other girl is "Faith." She's a 2006 Fender American Standard Telecaster with black lacquer finish and chrome hardware. She is beautiful!
I also have a black lacquer Esteban American Legacy Midnight Steel 6-String Full Body Acoustic Dreadnought. His name is "Cash." I named him "Cash" because I have a picture of Johnny Cash playing a Martin that looks VERY similar to it. "Cash" has a beautiful Mother Of Pearl rosette, binding around the body, neck, and head stock, and a beautiful herringbone stripe down the seam of the two-piece back. It has an electric pickup at the bridge with a 3-band graphic equalizer on-board. He's one sharp guitar!
I still have my first guitar, too. It's an L. A. Full Size Dreadnought. I added a Dean Markley pickup to it. It's the most cheap sounding and most cheap made guitar I've ever played, but it's very special to me. I had every person I've ever played with sign it! The fret board is some sort of unfinished cheap wood painted black. I taught myself how to play on this guitar.
I also have my Dad's banjo. It's an Emperador 5-String Banjo. It has white binding all around the neck and body, Mother Of Pearl inlay dots on the fret board, and a Mother Of Pearl Inlay Eagle on the back. Mahogany body and neck, and bone nut. It's a beautiful instrument.
The best electric guitar strings on the market today are Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. I've played them for 17 years. I won't play any other electric strings.
The best acoustic strings on the market are Ernie Ball Earthwoods. I prefer the Light Gauge, and sometimes the Extra Light Gauge. They have a very nice ring and sustain to them. I have played Martin, DiAddario, and a couple other brands, but I love the Ernie Ball Earthwoods the best! They have a tone that cannot be beat!
I use a SpectraFlex cable with my electric when I play in a large area. I like the vintage appearance of the SpectraFlex cables. They are tweed covered. They have a full lifetime warranty. No matter what happens to them - even if it's your fault - SpectraFlex will replace the cable for life! And there is zero hum and noise. Most of the time, though, I use a Fender California Coil cable. It's a vintage coiled cable, with a modern twist - the shielding is red see-through. I think these coiled cables have a more vintage tone to them, too.
The best tuner out today is the Korg OT120 Chromatic Orchestral Tuner. It's not digital, but has a real needle meter. These are far superior to the digital tuners in sensitivity and accuracy. And this particular tuner will tune not only your guitar, but ANY instrument. I really like mine a lot.
I use a Peavey PVM-45i Unidirectional Dynamic Hypercardioid Microphone. This is a really great mic. It's basically a clone of the Shure SM-57. But, I like the Peavey's design and feel better than I do the SM-57's. You can get right on this mic and put a lot of gain on it , and you don't have to worry about feedback!
As for picks... I use Fender Tortoise Shell Tri-Edge Mediums. They are wider than normal picks, and I can hang onto them better! I also use Wedgie Medium-Thin, and Thin nylon picks. I like the textured grips and the flexibility they have.
I use Levy's Leather Guitar Straps. I have two of them. A brown suede and a black glove leather. I like them because they are wide, padded, and really comfortable. I also have a classic yellow & black Fender strap that I use with Miss Faith.
I outfit all my guitars with Dunlop Strap locks. This is a MUST!!! The Dunlop Strap locks are one of the greatest inventions ever! There's nothing worse than having a strap end slip off and dropping your precious guitar! With these, you can play without fear!
My amp of choice is the Fender G-DEC 30 watt amp. It has on-board MIDI accompaniment. You can set the temp, key, and what instruments you want to play along with. It's like having a band - without all the egos! LOL It has all the effects, such as chorus, distortion, reverb, wah-wah, etc. It will also sound like 17 different models of Fender amps! One of my favorites is the Twin Reverb. This is one awesome amp! It has an on-board tuner and metronome as well. It has stereo outputs, so you can record what you play via a tape deck or pipe it into your sound card on your pc and burn your music to CD. It also has MIDI In and Out, and when used with the M-Audio MIDI Interface (Recommended by Fender) you can download more pre-designed backing loops to play along with. You can also compose your own backing loops. This is one sweet little amp! You can really be a one-man show with this!
For recording, I use a Lexicon Omega USB mixer on my pc, in combination with Steinberg's Cubase LE software and the legendary Pantheon Reverb used in professional studios for years. It's a great little setup, and has 48v of phantom power.
Well, there you have it! This is my gear! I'll be posting more detailed, in-depth reviews and articles on each of these items later on.
