One of our favorite things to do is peruse the used book store. We have a hard time walking out of there without our arms loaded full. On our last trip we came home with a real bargain, both financial and spiritual! Of course Walks In Spirit and I love all stones and crystals, we never saw a rock we did not love. Crystals however hold a special feeling for us and we love to incorporate them all around our home. They are also a special feature in the beautiful Dream Catchers he creates.
We also pay attention and work with our dreams, recording them and interpreting them. (If you don't already do this you need to start!) Myth holds a special meaning in the Universal archive of human consciousness, and should have deep respect regardless of our cultural back ground. The symbols in myths around the world speak to us across the time cultural barriers we have created. They speak to our inner being, the ghost in the machine, the eternal part of us.
When I saw this book, Crystal Legends by Moyra Caldecott I knew it would speak to me. It has sparked a new creativity in my dream life and helped me find new tools for my spiritual empowerment. For example the symbol of the sword in "The Two Swords of King Arthur" sparked a new image tool for use in one of the meditations I do.
In this particular guided meditation I meet a spiritual teacher who offers me a gift. During this exchange I can ask for any gift I want. Taking a hint from Arthur I chose to ask for my own special Sword encrusted with crystals and stones meaningful to me. ( Like Arthur and Galahad) I am even thinking of drawing my own sword with it's own special stones to enhance this meditation and reinforce my personal power!
This meditation sparked some interesting dreams and changes in my consciousness. The sword is an interesting symbol. Far from a weapon of violence as I would have thought before reading this book. Caldecott interprets the sword as a "blazing shaft of spiritual energy that only they are capable of wielding." What a wonderful tool! We all have our very own special sword, an ability that only we are capable of using. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all could find this tool and wield it!
So you ask how did this translate into my daily life? I found my self for two days following that meditation feeling a special energy in speaking to people about their problems. Healing has always been a special interest of mine and healing both physically, mentally and spiritually are of equal importance. I found myself in a position to speak to people on all of these levels. It was an experience of service I find especially rewarding. One woman actually told me she was grateful to have me to talk to and that our talks had given her hope and peace. This woman has decided to turn her spiritual path back to her first love of physics! She is going to continue on, finish her education and become a physics professor. She "knows" that she has a special spiritual contribution to make to this field of science and she now has the inspiration to move forward with her life!
For two days straight I had experience after experience like this just from this one meditation! The opportunities just flowed. Making such a personal positive contribution to others is a stark contrast to what my job normally entails. (which if you don't know much about me, I usually end up sending people to jail, not a lot of fun on the whole)
Of course the book is full of various myths and they all have crystals in them. Some I have heard before and some I have not. I look forward to reading this book over and over, allowing the myths and images to speak to me on my own personal path as they will. I invite you to find a book on myths, if not this one then one that speaks to you and let the spiritual juices flow! Blessings!
