One of the things that Walks In Spirit and I do at the Red Path is find common denominators among spiritual beliefs, Mitakuye Oyasin, we are all related. Every culture on earth has it's beauty and truth expressed in a unique and vibrant way. God and truth belong to no one culture. While reading what he wrote about the Medicine Wheel and the four directions, I saw some important connections in the four directions and the teachings from the Cayce readings about meditation. I would like to go through and discuss these concepts.
The Medicine Wheel represents our Journey in this life. You'll notice that the Medicine Wheel is divided into four quadrants. These four quadrants represent the Four Directions, and each of these hold special qualities. First, we will start with the West and move clockwise around the Medicine Wheel. That is The Way we travel around the Wheel. Never go counter-clockwise.
The direction of travel around the Wheel is the direction that the chakras spin.
The West is where the Thunder Beings live, and also where the Spirit World is. It is where the Spirits of our deceased loved ones are. It is represented by the color Black on the Medicine Wheel, and is also represented by the season of Autumn, and it's animal representative is the Grizzly Bear.
The spirit world here is represented by the color black, which is a symbol of death, or as Cayce would put it the other door. The west is given the first position, or designated as One. The place to begin and end. All life comes from and returns to the One. When one meditates and reaches the highest level of meditation you reach the Void, the un manifest Being of God. Consciousness before movement or thought. The womb of God.The place we must all return to. The Grizzly Bear teaches us to respect our natural hibernation cycles. Just as Bear rests during winter and reawakens during spring, we need spaces of rest and rejuvenation. Bear calls us to awaken the potential within ourselves and the power of our unconscious mind.
The North is the place of spiritual renewal and cleansing. It's where the great white cleansing wind comes from. It is represented by the color White on the Medicine Wheel, and is also represented by the season of Winter. It's animal representative is the White Buffalo.
The north is the direction that Cayce pointed his head when doing a physical reading. It is the direction of physical attunement in meditation. In order to be physically capable to reach higher states of meditation God must attune our bodies and transform them, it involves cleansing. Our first step in meditation. The buffalo was the perfect supply of the Comanche physical needs. Nothing was wasted, it housed, clothed, fed and supplied all the bodily needs.
The East is the direction from where the sun rises, and light comes. It is where the Morning Star lives to give men wisdom. It is represented by the color Red on the Medicine Wheel. It's also represented by the season of Spring. It's animal representative is the Eagle.
The east is the direction one faces to seek God's will according to Cayce. He suggested upon rising to face east and ask God three times what his will is for us to do today. In an earlier post I mention that we are Morning stars, this is the direction of our entrance into the earth plane. The direction for wisdom according to the Comanche Medicine wheel. The Eagle is the Messenger according to Comanche beliefs. He carries our prayers to God.
The South is where the power to grow comes from. It is represented by the color Green on the Medicine Wheel. It's also represented by the season of Summer. It's animal representative is the Coyote.
When Mr. Cayce gave spiritual reading he placed his head toward the south. The power to grow from spiritual attunement. Summer is the time of growth. The Coyote is the teacher of the young, she teaches lessons of love and survival.
In the center of the Medicine Wheel, you will see two paths that cross - a Red one and a Black one. The path from North to South is the Red Path. It is the good path that we all try to stay on through our lives. When we do our best to be in The Creator's Will, we are on The Red Path. The Black Path goes from West to East, and is a fearful path, full of troubles. We all sometimes stumble onto this Black Path.
The Red Path is from North to south, from physical attunement to spiritual attunement. The black Path, the path from West to East is the path away from the ultimate journey we must all take toward God. It is the path that reverses the flow of the energy of the East. It is the path of resistance to the Will of God. The meeting of self by engaging in life.
As you look at the Medicine Wheel it is a symbol of numbers, the four directions, the two paths, the ultimate One of the circle. Add it all up you arrive at seven, the number of chakras.
